Management and Governance

The key roles of the governance team are to enable, facilitate, manage and direct (as necessary) the successful implementation of the project in order to achieve the stated research outcomes. An essential function of the team is to maximise opportunities arising from the unique program including, publication in learned journals, funding for new projects, commercialisation and education, training and capacity building.

The governance team will comprise the chief investigators, project co-ordinator and steering group leaders from each site. Staff performance appraisal and dispute management are in accordance with the relevant institutional guidelines and policies.

Steering groups

The six steering groups are defined by activity and are:

1. Lung structure
2. Lung function and physiology
3. Pathways to bronchiectasis
4. Data integrity and security
5. Publication
6. Training

The groups are responsible for the day-to-day management of specific program activities, that includes but are not limited to: study progress, review of data, manuscript proposal and preparation, review of standard operating procedures and ethics committee approvals.

The steering groups 1-4 are mirrored at each site and have quarterly joint meetings. Group 4 is responsible for the timely collation of data and entry to the master database and for providing summary data to the co-ordinator. The group is also responsible for the implementation of procedures to ensure data and sample security. Responsibility for chairing the joint steering groups will alternate between sites.

Site-based groups meet monthly. Groups 4 and 5 exist only as joint groups. The publication group is responsible for the management of manuscript proposals and publication strategy and policy including authorship. The training group is responsible for ensuring that adequate resources and supervision are available to students and advanced trainees and that there is appropriate liaison with universities, professional colleges, employers and accreditation boards.

The program coordinator will be responsible for co-ordination between centres, collaborators and hospital departments, supervision of Laboratory staff and all laboratory aspects of the project as well as maintaining the information database, preparing reports and papers, and involvement with all presentations arising from the project
